The General Assembly reviewed SPAG’s institutional
development following its formal establishment in France and considered
measures aimed at strengthening the organisation’s governance arrangements,
accountability systems and programme direction.
During the session, members elected Saeed ZAKI as President
and Zeinab Osman as Secretary-General and Treasurer, in accordance with the
organisation’s Statutes.
The General Assembly also reviewed priorities related to
SPAG’s strategic planning, institutional development and substantive areas of
work.
The meeting reaffirmed SPAG’s commitment to operating as an
independent and non-partisan policy and advisory organisation, guided by
principles of integrity, accountability, evidence-based analysis and the public
interest.
Members also reviewed the organisation’s four principal
areas of work: Strategic Planning, Capacity Building, Solidarity and
Innovation, as well as the continued development of its flagship initiatives,
including Sudan Vision 2030, the Sudan Academy of Public Administration, the
Sudan Solidarity Board, and the Sudan Digital Transformation Initiative.
The General Assembly underscored the importance of
strengthening engagement with Sudanese professionals, researchers, academics
and technical specialists inside Sudan and across the diaspora, and of creating
structured channels through which expertise can contribute to research, policy
analysis, institutional development and longer-term recovery efforts.
Speaking following the session, Saeed ZAKI, President of SPAG, said: “This General Assembly marks an important step in strengthening SPAG’s institutional foundations and clarifying the responsibilities that will guide our work in the period ahead. Our focus remains on building a credible, independent and professionally grounded platform that brings together Sudanese expertise, supports serious policy thinking, and contributes constructively to the long-term work of recovery and institutional development.”
The session also paid tribute to the late Prof. Dr. Amel Omer Bakhiet, a co-founder of SPAG, recognising her contribution to the organisation’s establishment and early development.
The General Assembly further emphasised the importance of
maintaining clear governance arrangements, transparent decision-making and
appropriate internal controls as SPAG expands its institutional and programme
portfolio.
Zeinab Osman, Secretary-General and Treasurer, said: “The decisions taken by the General Assembly strengthen the institutional basis for SPAG’s next phase of work. Our responsibility now is to translate this governance framework into substantive research, policy analysis, capacity development and practical initiatives that can contribute to Sudan’s future.”
The outcomes of the session provide a governance framework
for the organisation’s next phase of work, including the continued development
of its expert networks, policy initiatives, research activities and
capacity-building programmes.
The General Assembly also reaffirmed that SPAG’s strength
rests in the collective expertise and integrity of its members, and that the
organisation’s institutional framework should support serious, evidence-based
work in the public interest.
